Meet Laura Richard

  

Laura Richard was elected to the Office of Fort Bend County Clerk in 2014 and has devoted herself to bringing the highest ethical standards, innovative processes, management practices and effective budget management to the County Clerk’s office.

Laura’s accomplishments as County Clerk include being the recipient of the 2015 and 2016 Vital Statistics 5 Star Award given by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, a prestigious award given to only a small percentage of County Clerks in Texas. Laura opened a new Sienna Annex office to better service East Fort Bend County, instituted a new fines collection service thus adding more than $100,000 to the general fund, reorganized staff and optimized 100’s of procedures to maximize efficiency and increased office hours for enhanced customer service.

Laura has 30 years of experience in management, marketing and development in for-profit, nonprofit and government organizations. She has a background in technology, leading and managing cross-functional teams, fundraising, public relations, and a history of working with community leaders.

Laura began her career in the technology sector working for companies such as IBM and BMC Software. During her spare time, Laura volunteered with various nonprofits in Fort Bend County.  After a long career in the corporate world, Laura had the opportunity to continue to give back to the community by holding positions in several nonprofits including Development Director and Executive Director.

Laura’s husband Jim, a long serving Fort Bend County Justice of the Peace, passed away in 2014.  Upon his passing, the Fort Bend County Commissioner’s Court unanimously appointed Laura to fill the JP position until the next election.

Laura has deep ties to the community having grown up in Fort Bend County.  She received her degree from Houston Baptist University, is a member of the Fort Bend Junior Service League, a graduate of Fort Bend Leadership Forum, Fort Bend Leadership for Nonprofit Excellence and is continually involved in many community events.  Laura and her family are members of many Fort Bend based volunteer organizations and consider it a privilege to give back to the community
